ALBUMS OF THE YEAR 2019

Joe Armon-Jones – Turn To Clear View

This is my jazz album of the year. Talented London-based keyboardist Joe Armon-Jones really excels on this lush, layered and stunning new album Turn To Clear View. It’s a delicate and memorable release, and includes some of my favourite tracks of this year. Big ups! REVIEW / STREAM

Clever Austin –  Pareidolia

Pareidolia really left me speechless upon first listen. It’s a subtle, textured and soulful project, highlighting exactly why Clever Austin is one of the most exciting artists this year. The spiritual melodies throughout, as well as the eclectic experimentation makes it one of my favourite and most listened to albums of 2019. REVIEW / STREAM

Mndsgn – Snaxx

LA-based cosmic beat legend Mndsgn did not disappoint this year with a beautiful, layered and funky release titled Snaxx. His subtle yet poignant and emotive compositions have been on repeat since it came out, and it’s truly one of the best releases of this year. REVIEW / STREAM

Freddie Gibbs & Madlib – Bandana

Bandana is an absolute killer follow-up to Freddie Gibbs and Madlib’s debut collaborative album Piñata. It’s hard-hitting, menacing and incredibly well produced, as Freddie’s improved lyrical ability is backed by Madlib’s usually eccentric production. One of my most listened to albums this year, and one of the best albums of the decade, hands down. REVIEW / STREAM

Tyler, The Creator – IGOR

Tyler, The Creator’s 5th studio album IGOR represents such incredible and impressive growth from this incredible artist. It’s his most cohesive body of work with some of his best compositions, and sees him blossoming further into one incredible producer and composer. I don’t know what else to say about this release other than the fact that it’s a true masterpiece of its time. REVIEW / STREAM
