Legendary London-based artist Tawiah has come through with her brand new album titled Starts Again. Even though it’s her debut album, she has been a staple within the scene in the UK, already an established voice. On her 10 track album she shows why she’s one of the most gifted musicians of this generation.
The album starts off with the short skit “Conversations with Papa” before going into “Recreate,” a gorgeous, soulful and melodic track with piano keys and synths bringing this magical, beautiful tone and vibe to the album. The live, drum-heavy instrumentation on tracks like “Good,” “Borders” and “One Moment” hits hard, with a gospel, angelic-like quality to these tracks. Her ability to bring a transcending and ethereal quality. The blues inspired “Starts Again” is beautiful, with guitar leads and basslines that add so much funk to the track. “Lost in a Dream” is a catchy and groovy track, with more of a dance-heavy beat that give the track this infectious energy. “How Much Left” and “Mother’s Prayer” are two slower-paced, melodic and stunningly beautiful track, with the former having emphatic strings and the latter closing the album out beautifully with a soulful, gospel-like track with backing vocals and a simple but poignant piano melody. Overall, Tawiah really shines through on her debut album, a stunningly beautiful album that captures pure soul. A lot of the moments throughout the album are goosebumps inducing, and I’m happy that she’s been able to really own her moment on this project.
