Brooklyn-based singer Anna Wise comes through with a gorgeous new album titled As If It Were Forever. Having discovered her on Kendrick Lamar’s classic 2015 album To Pimp A Butterfly, I was immediately drawn by her stunning aura and angelic, gentle and soothing voice. On this new project, she brings her world together in an immersive listening experience.
“Worm’s Playground” kicks the album off with a smooth, synth and guitar-heavy track, bringing this hypnotic and incredibly beautiful aura that carries itself throughout the album. “Blue Rose” is a slow, moody yet ethereal track with drums and soft synths that just tickle the soul with gentleness and beauty. “Abracadabra” features Little Simz as she brings a usual introspective verse. Other features throughout the record include Denzel Curry on “Count My Blessings,” a funk-driven track with basslines and claps that are just so groovy, as well as a dope verse from the talented rapper. Pink Siifu features on “One of The Changes Is You,” a smooth interlude and Jon Bap appears as a feature on “Vivre d’Amour et d’Eau Fraîche,” though his contributions as a whole on the album shouldn’t go unnoticed, the same goes to Nick Hakim. The eclectic energy throughout that track is wonderful, and “Mirror” is this transcendent, stunning moment that just moved me like no other on the album. “Juice” is an eclectic soulful and upbeat cut that closes the album out brilliantly. Overall, As If It Were Forever is a stunning album that showcases her singing talents, as her angelic is soulful vocal performance shines throughout beautifully.
