Music: Ben Hauke – Old Yet Raw

South London based producer Ben Hauke comes through with a “new” EP titled Old Yet Raw. Some of the beats on this project are almost a decade old, some of them more recent, but this collection of music is one he describes as “gathering dust for some time.” His groovy and soulful take on house music has been something I have been a fan of for a while, and this new project continues his streak of wonderfully engaging releases.

The 5 track project starts off with “All The Way,” a hip-hop inspired track with samples throughout and a boom-bap beat that makes for an upbeat and head-bob heavy beat. “Under Under” features DAM-SLO and has synth leads and wobbling basslines that make for an dance-heavy groove that spans nearly 9 minutes. “How’s Your Day?” features heavy drums and samples that just fit perfectly with the tone of the record and the album as a whole. “Errors, Issues, Insane” is another engaging and wonderfully produced track with more synths and thumping beats. The mysticism of the last track “Tressel Time” makes it my favourite track, with more percussive grooves that sound ethereal throughout. Overall this is a stellar project showcasing his talents a diverse, gifted beatmaker and producer. Big ups to you, man!
