LA-based musician Kiefer has had a few absolutely tremendous years. Releasing stellar projects such as Happysad and Bridges EP, as well as producing for the likes of Kaytranada and Anderson .Paak, the Stones Throw member has released what may be his most complete body of work, Superbloom.
His 7-track album features some incredible, textured and wonderfully composed melodies. His virtuous keyboard playing is complemented by incredible synths, basslines and beats, providing for a colourful and memorable listen. “Golden” kicks the album off with a bass-heavy beat, angelic piano keys and a brilliant, groovy vibe. This is the feeling you get throughout the project, with tracks like “Frozen” and “Good Looking” bringing heavy, funky basslines, while the colourful, more soulful vibe of tracks like “May 20” and “10,000 Days” makes for a smooth, more laid back listen. “Be Encouraged” and “And Encourage Others” are other reflective listens, with soulful piano leads and groovy basslines. The beats on these two tracks are infectious, as they perfectly complement the tone and beat of this album. Overall, Superbloom is a cohesive, smooth-as-butter and incredibly soulful project that showcases exactly how good of a producer Kiefer is. I wish him nothing but the best of success for the future, because he deserves it!
