Berlin-based band Aporia have come through with a brand new album titled Hotel Aporia. This is my first time listening to the band, and I’m immediately struck by the dreamy, ethereal vibe they’re able to create through infectious synth melodies and beautiful vocals.
The album starts off with “Psychic Driving,” a smooth and soulful synth-heavy track with a tremendously catchy vocal performance. “South Seas Beijing” is an instrumental track, bringing dreamy guitars and electronics, making it an introspective and reflective track. They bring Middle Eastern vibes on “Moog in Cairo,” with their traditional Egyptian Oud and clarinet, bringing a truly hypnotic tone to the album. “News from Nowhere” sounds like something off David Lynch’s Twin Peaks soundtrack, with a truly mesmeric tone created through the incredible, slow-building guitar melodies that make it one of my absolute favourites on this album. “Isles in Motion / Shipwreck Bay” is another hypnotic, moody instrumental track with abstract samples and a beautiful ambiance to it. The album ends with a prog-rock inspired track titled “Secret Fields,” with its dreamy wailing guitars and hypnotic ambient groove. Overall, Aporia really impress with this record and show their eclecticism on this album. Excellent release!
