Dutch producer Thijsenterprise comes through with a brand new remix album titled Proefmonster. Having been really impressed with his previous release Smoetsie, I was interested to hear more music from the talented musician, and this release is a welcome new addition to his bright discography.
The album has 26 remixes, with songs from the likes of Jay-Z, Anderson .Paak, Kendrick Lamar, Nas, A Tribe Called Quest, Freddie Gibbs and The Pharcyde among many others of course. There’s so much to say about the soothing and soulful chopped samples throughout this album. The smooth basslines on “Am I Wrong” by .Paak is just so soulful. I’ll be honest, at times I was skeptical seeing some of the people he was remixing. You can never replace or rework Dilla’s drums on Slum Village’s “Get Dis Money,” or rework the incredible chemistry Kendrick and 9th Wonder had on “DUCKWORTH,” but Thijsenterprise did a decent enough job. Other moments blew me away, such as his remix of Childish Gambino’s “Redbone,” and the incredible, upbeat energy on his remix of Amy Winehouse’s “Addicted.” Together with Smoetsie, the talented producer has released two exceptionally produced albums, so I’ll be looking forward to so much more from him in the future.
