Barcelona-based producer Thijsenterprise comes through with a new beat tape titled Smoetsie. The talented musician has been making an effort to reach out to me with his music, and I regrettably missed the chance to review his last full-length album Stepbacks & Setbacks, which was released back in September 2018. So, quick review on that tape – it’s really dope.
On Smoetsie, Thijsenterprise decides to theme the album around love, producing some of the smoothest and most eclectic production this year. It is heavily Dilla influenced, not only in terms of sound but in run time and the short, looped production that changes up every minute or two. For a record that features an array of different sounds, this project flows incredibly well. “Passion Is Knowledge / I Gave All My Love” is one favourite of mine, as well as “Get Your Freak On (Day In Day Out),” with their grandiose soul and funk samples, but honestly, take any track throughout this incredibly dense album, and I guarantee you it slaps, heavy.
So please give this album a listen, it is definitely worth your time and energy as the journey it takes you in is just incredible. Listen to Thijsenterprise’s brand new album Smoetsie below via Bandcamp, and don’t forget to support!
‘Some of the smoothest and most eclectic production this year’. Damn, that’s no joke! Thanks mate! -Thijsenterprise
