The 29 year old German musician known as Glenn Astro has been someone I have been admiring for years now due to his excellent musical output. Most recently, he released a project titled C.I.W, an incredible EP that showcased his eclectic style to the fullest. His new project goes under the name Delta Rain Dance, an electronic music experiment that features subtle synths, electronic effects and tribal grooves backed by a lot of bass-heavy beats. Pushing Simplicity Since 1987 is the culmination of these experiments and it does not disappoint one bit.
The album is a moody one in tone and requires a lot of attention to detail as he meanders through grooves and hypnotic percussion throughout this 7 track project. Records like “1987” really help you zone out to the meditative sounds of his percussion and drumming techniques and smooth, silky basslines that pulsate through your eardrums beautifully throughout. There’s a lot to admire about this project. “Pushing” features heavy, tribal and meditative percussion that is loud and stripped back, while there is a ton of incredibly beautiful moments throughout “Simplicity” and “Since.” The bonus tracks “Presets Of The Mind” and “Since Reprise” are both hypnotic additions to this fantastic project. Glenn Astro really excels with his music yet again on this mesmerising project.
