Music: Elaquent – Blessing In Disguise

Elaquent has been on my radar as an exceptionally talented producer for a while now. The Canadian musician has come through with a brand new album titled Blessing in Disguise, his first release on one of my favourite hip-hop labels presently, Mello Music Group. Elaquent has been killing it with releases, (his Baker’s Dozen project is great), but boooooy this new release is something else.

The textures on this album are soulful, and full of bass-heavy funky melodies that bring out so much character to this release. The dynamic, boom-bap rhythm on “Trapdoor” is complemented by gorgeous keys and a bassline that is guaranteed to give you the stank face. That same energy is translated throughout on tracks like “Valhalla,” maybe more so with its deep bassline and subtle keys and synths. “Princess” and “Airplane Mode” are other favourites of mine, with the former having heavy Dibiase influence with its 8-bit sound. The sound throughout is just crazy, and all I can say is, thank you Elaquent, for being such an important voice in today’s music and beat scene, you are a legend, bro.

Listen to Elaquent’s Blessing in Disguise below via Bandcamp, and make sure you support! Released via Mello Music Group.
