Jerome Thomas man, you are something else. The talented London-based singer, songwriter and multi-talented artist has come through with an exceptional new EP titled Mood Swings (Volume One), a gorgeous soulful project which is able to highlight not only his stellar vocal range but his eclectic and diverse sound that brings a world of R&B, neo-soul, blues and electronic music together.
Honestly, I don’t know where to start with the project. There’s no mediocre or underwhelming track on here. “Safe” features a gorgeous, stripped down vocal performance from the talented singer, with sweet guitar licks that tickle the soul. The lead single “Bruises” is one hell of a groovy jam. That beat and those chords are just everything, and Jerome’s vocal performance is so D’Angelo-like, with such profound soul. Jarreau Vandal (who released one of my favourite releases last year with Anthology) appears on this album on “Lovesick” with beautiful, lush instrumentation, while Serious Klein comes through with a serious verse on “Loaded,” produced by the man Maxwell Owin. Speaking of producers, I’m so excited to see my guy Oliver Palfreyman have credits on “Belongs To.” He’s one of my favourite producers period, so please do check out his stellar album OP01, one of my favourite albums of 2018. Other producers on this project include Kojo, CIN, Kamen Kolev (a fellow Bulgarian?), Pitch 92 and Fr1th. The project is dense with live instrumentation, with drumming being enveloped with stunning synth leads and dominant basslines throughout that really bring out a colourful, energetic dynamic to the track.
A major shoutout to Jerome Thomas, who releases a gem with Mood Swings (Volume One). You can listen to the project below via Spotify, and don’t forget to support! He is also embarking on a UK tour at the moment, so check for tickets here.
