The next project in the Fat Beats’ Baker’s Dozen series focuses on one of Canada’s finest, Elaquent. The legendary producer has been making music since well over a decade, being inspired heavily by the likes of J Dilla, Pete Rock, Preemo and the whole LA Beat scene. In his latest release he reminds us why he is one of the most respected musicians in the game. With his choppy jazz samples and his thumping drum patterns, the Guelph, Ontario producer is able to bring about a hard-hitting and head-nodding sound that includes brilliant soul and hip-hop samples as well as subtle synths and keys that add texture to the project. As he said himself, “it starts with a melody or sample, and I kinda just let the vibe take over.”
You can listen to Baker’s Dozen: Elaquent below via Bandcamp, and make sure you support the project in any way you can. Shoutout to Fat Beats Records as well.
