A few thoughts: Anysia Kym has been making some of the most innovative and interesting electronic music I’ve heard in recent years. Pressure Sensitive with Jadasea last year was a moment, as both artists brought out the best of each other, with the album being one of my favourites of 2023. Truest, her new project, sees her expand on her already unique and interesting sound, with incredibly textured and rich production as well as vocals that are absolutely stunning throughout. From the disorienting yet soulful and synth-led opener “Hesitations (Intro)” to the dynamic, fast breaks of “Amplitude”, the album is full of energetic, memorable moments. The colourful broken-beat of “Selfish Freestyle” is incredible, while the smooth, atmospheric “Wannabe – Interlude” flows perfectly into the MIKE featuring “In Doubt”, who of course come through with a stellar verse over another eclectic and psychedelic beat. The groove of “# 71 (Again and Again)” is fantastic, while the heavy beat and bassline on “Owed2me” is fantastic too. Overall, Anysia Kym has come through with a stellar body of work that showcases why she’s one of the most exciting artists making music today. She’s really exceeded my expectations with this album and I can’t wait to catch her live because I imagine that would be an experience!
