A few thoughts: John Glacier has been making some of the most innovative and exciting hip-hop coming out of London in the last few years, with incredible projects like SHILOH: Lost For Words still being on heavy rotation today. The Hackney-born artist has since signed to Young, been once of the faces of Burberry, and has collaborated with some of the most interesting and innovative artists making music today. Like A Ribbon is her new EP, a short but punchy project featuring the dark, cold energy reflecting the gloom of London, produced by Kwes Darko, with John Glacier’s moody, reflective and introspective lyricism that captures so much emotion. “Satellite” kicks the project off with a rumbling bassline and beat, and guitar leads that add colour and character to the track. “Tripsteady” has this atmospheric vibe with John Glacier’s cool nonchalant energy complementing the energy of the track itself. “Money Shows” features Eartheater, with a dominant guitar lead and an introspective John Glacier with intricate lyricism – “Go get a jet set and float like the water flows, yeah / But I never stay running where the money goes / Go get a jet set and float like the water flows, yeah”. “Emotions” has a colourful synth-led beat that complements John Glacier’s moody raps, while “Navasure” has another colourful beat that closes the project out with John Glacier’s reflections self-doubt, with introspections on self and how to be at peace with them fully. Like A Ribbon is an excellent EP that showcases John Glacier’s versatility as an artist and willingness to push herself creatively over some eclectic production.
