Since his incredible 2017 debut ज़ितम सिहँ, Jitwam has expanded his musical influences and styles to new heights. Raw, experimental and infectious in every possible way, that album has remained one of my favourites in recent years. Born in India, raised in Australia and living in between New York and London, his music really has become a melting pot of different styles and sounds, taking inspiration from all corners of life, all spaces and places that have made him the artist that he is. His 2019 album Honeycomb showed his versatility as an artist, growing as a songwriter and polishing his melodies and records more than ever before. The charm of his debut was the raw, ruggedness of it all, his sophomore had this smooth, soulful touch to it, and this year he has added to his expansive discography. Third is the name of his new album, and it is probably his most concise and cohesive albums to date. From the rhythmic bossa-nova influences on tracks like “Confidence”, to the club-inspired “Money & Things!!!”, he excelled yet again with an album that is dynamic, groovy, incredibly textured and infectious to the core. The funk on tracks like “Brooklyn Ballers” and “India” – fucking incredible, while the neo-soul aura of “Hey Papi” and “Maryjane” make even the slower, more melodic moments just so groovy.
Jitwam’s Third is just an incredible album from front-to-back, and one that will get replayed for years to come, I’m sure. His artistic growth is inspiring, and I’m always excited for what’s next. For the time being though, immerse yourself in this beauty. Go listen to and support Jitwam’s album Third below!
