When Jitwam’s last release ज़ितम सिहँ came out in 2017, I thought I was listening to the future. With futuristic, LA beat scene-type beats with layers of instrumentation and an eclectic tone throughout that made it one of my favourite releases of the year. HONEYCOMB is his sophomore album, a soulful and well produced album that sees the talented artist move beyond abstract beats into more well developed tracks.
With live percussive elements and synth leads sprinkled throughout this album, Jitwam is able to craft an eclectic soulful sound through his distinctive vocals throughout. Tracks like “I’m a Rock” and “b i t c h” are wonderful examples of the eclecticism in production and unique vocal delivery from the now Brooklyn-based artist. The lead single “Temptations” has a groovy guitar-lead that is perfectly complemented by a sweet vocal melody and a groovy bassline that has a dominant presence throughout the record. Jitwam has always been able to create great grooves and unique melodies. “Opendoors” has a sweet catchy rhythm that utilises guitars and subtle horns to add character and depth to the record. “Country & Western” has a soothing vocal performance with sweet guitar notes and subtle drumming as well. It’s a phenomenal track and an overall excellent album that shows why Jitwam is one of the most exciting talents to come out in recent years.
