Music: 14KT – For My Sanity

Michigan-based artist 14KT has been one of the more interesting hip-hop producers of the last decade. Known for his amazing sampling and chopping techniques, he has been able to produce a plethora of records for the likes of Invincible, One Be Lo, Danny Brown, the Black Opera, I, Ced, and Elzhi. His new record, For My Sanity sees him reach new bounds as a producer, creating a much more jazz-centric music which focuses heavily on live instrumentation and stellar compositions.

Tracks such as “Down The Street From Peace” feature smooth basslines and a synth-heavy melody that brings character and energy to the track. “Mainstream” is a beautiful rendition of OutKast’s classic off their 1996 classic AtLiens, whilst “The Power Of Same” is a beautiful soulful R&B track featuring a beautiful vocal performance from Muhsinah. The record as a whole is cohesive in sound and brings such a confident tone to the whole record. The angelic “Fourteen Missing” is a phenomenal spiritual track with incredible vocals from Jimetta Rose and emphatic drumming. Throughout the album there is a true live and authentic feel that makes it an engaging and wonderful listen overall.

Thank you 14KT for this stellar release, and I hope to hear so much more from you in the future. Listen to For My Sanity below via Bandcamp, and don’t forget to share and support! Released via First Word Record.
