Prolific LA producer Knxwledge goes house with his new project 家.V1, and it is even better than I anticipated it would be. Known mostly for his short and snappy hip-hop production, this is quite different to how I know him as an artist. All 8 tracks (with the exception of the interlude “krossing”) are 4 minutes or longer, with interlocking grooves and beats that are just so infectious to listen to.
“adoreu” is probably my favourite off the tape, simply because of the atmospheric and grandiose synth leads that expand in the background of rhythmic percussive grooves that add to the dynamic beat. The track builds and expands before retracting, just like a human lung breathing in air and breathing it out emphatically. I get lost in the track, but this doesn’t only happen on the opener, but throughout the project. The bass-heavy and direct “rokit” is also exceptional, as the beat is complemented by key melodies and percussive elements that bring the track to life in a truly special way. The jazzy and mystic “mysterious_” is incredibly smooth yet dynamic, while “gardens_” has some of the most electrifying key melodies I’ve heard in a while. The bass-heavy beats on these tracks are quite special. The 8-bit video game-inspired “inhere” is another vibrant and colorful track that closes the album out perfectly.
家.V1 just proves the extent of Knxwledge’s talents as a producer, creating an infectious house project with some of the best, most engaging beats I’ve heard so far this year. Listen to Knxwledge’s exceptional new tape 家.V1 and don’t forget to support!
