Music: Kesswa – Soften EP

Detroit-based musician Kesswa comes through with a brand new EP titled Soften. This is the first time I’ve come across the talented artist, but her beautiful and soulful vocal performance throughout is backed by futuristic and otherworldly production, making this an inspiring listen.

The 4-track project kicks off with “Open,” a smooth and heartfelt track with glossy synths and effects, as well as a moving vocal performance from her. The passion is wonderfully translated on tape. “Contemplate” features rhythmic drumming that drive the tempo of the track forward, as well as angelic synths with harps and groovy basslines. It’s a reflective track that perfectly captures a meditative state, as I feel instantly hooked and captivated throughout. “To Find” similarly has eclectic production, with stunning off-kilter beats and vocal effects that make this a fantastic track. “Open (Reprise)” closes the album out with a chilling version of the first track, with haunting synths and strings that add emotional potency to the record. Overall, Kesswa comes through with a sound-bending and eclectic project that is both captivating, groovy and utterly spellbinding.
