Music: Count Bass D – Edibles

Pennsylvania-based underground hip-hop legend Count Bass D has come through with a brand new instrumental album titled Edibles. Having been a fan of his music for the longest time, I was excited to hear about the release of this project, and as expected, the talented artist does not disappoint.

The 15 track tape features some incredibly soulful and eclectic moments, which is what Count Bass D is known for of course. “CBD Type Beat” opens the album up with gorgeous, soulful synth leads and a gospel vocal sample that sounds beautiful and really brings out a stunning energy throughout the album. The playful tone of “1-2-3-And” is groovy and infectious with its bassline, vocal sample and beat. The same goes with tracks like “The Way It Was,” “Until First Thing” and “See You On The Map,” as all these tracks have soulful, textured compositions. “When” has an almost anthemic soul vocal sample, with gorgeous strings and synths complementing the pretty great aura of the track. The way Count Bass D is able to chop these samples and add layers of synths, strings and emphatic beats on this whole album is truly mesmerising, and I’m really happy hearing new music from the true legend.
