Music: Da Lata – Birds

Da Lata are a legendary London-based soul-jazz band, and their highly anticipated new album Birds has finally arrived. It’s a soulful, rhythmic and intricately produced project with stellar melodies and compositions throughout.

The album starts with the guitar-driven, soulful and energetic “Mentality.” The incredible grooves on this track are translated throughout the 10 track album. “Dakar” is a moodier, slower-paced track with synths and gorgeous guitar-driven melodies that are beautiful and captivating. The Afro-Brazilian soul throughout tracks like “Memory Man” and “Thunder Silence” make these some of the funner, more upbeat tracks on the album. The closer “Birds” is a slow-paced ballad with stunning vocals throughout and acoustic guitars that perfectly capture an emotive and raw sound. Throughout the project, there are some incredibly raw and beautiful moments, with percussion and a lot of soulful, really mesmerising moments. It’s a great album, and Da Lata continue to prove why they are one of the most exciting bands out at the moment.
