Music: Oliver the 2nd – R+ vol. 1

California-based rapper and producer Oliver the 2nd has come through with a new tape titled R+ vol. 1. He’s been one of my favourite musicians over the last decade or so, but I haven’t listened to a project from him in a while, so listening to this new project reminds me why he’s so dope.

Jazzy, woozy and soulful soundscapes is what he brings to the tape. From the Nas “No Ideas Original” sample on “noideashi” to the Busta Rhymes sampling “champredlght,” the entire tape is full of gorgeous, synth and key-heavy compositions that sound soulful and incredibly funky. “wishuwud” samples Ludacris and T.I’s “Wish You Would” to great effect as well. Overall, Oliver the 2nd comes through with a short but sweet new remix project and I can’t wait to listen to more new music from the talented artist.
