Hailing from Wakefield in Yorkshire, Voldy Moyo aka V7BACKIN2007 has been making some really interesting music recently. With trap-influenced production and quirky electronic rhythms throughout his music, the rapper has been able to create a dark tone with his music, through introspective and humorous raps that are intriguing to me.
On his newest release Paper World, the musician embraces brevity. 11 tracks and only 16 minutes in length, each track is between one and two minutes long, and have some bass-heavy beats and dominant vocal performances from the young rapper. The project starts off with “Lumber,” a synth-heavy track with off-kilter effects and a sombre tone, with honest lyricism such as “How I run my mind with no sleep” and keeping that dark energy throughout. “Breakfast in the Night” features more of a melodic, sung melody from the rapper, who changes the tempo up. The chimes throughout add texture and colour to the instrumental. The dark tone on “Slo Money” is haunting, while “Wry” is a more dynamic, thumping track with a heavy track, with more introspective lyricism from the talented emcee. The rest of the album follows a similar tone, as he raps in a moody tone throughout these trap-influenced instrumentals. It’s a really good little project, and I hope that Voldy Moyo can continue to impress with albums in the future.
