Legendary Detroit producer Apollo Brown has come through with an absolutely massive two-disc album titled Sincerely, Detroit that pays homage to the hip-hop legacy of the city. Featuring the likes of Black Milk, Elzhi, Illa J, Slum Village, Guilty Simpson, Phat Kat, Nolan The Ninja, Crown Nation and Clear Soul Forces among many other artists.
As Apollo Brown himself stated: “There are cities that get by on their good looks, offer climate and scenery, views of mountains or oceans, rockbound, or with palm trees. And then there are blue collar cities like Detroit, that have to work for a living. Cities that rely on the toughness and resiliency of their people. Cities that will not quit. Detroit has an unmistakable soul; nobody can duplicate what we give to the world.” Detroit’s legacy is truly unmatched, really bringing the grit and personality of its people to record in the most effective and soulful way possible. The 21 track project embodies the musical eclecticism of the city, bringing legends and upcoming artists together in a celebratory musical marathon. It’s a terrific project, and instead of going through track by track, I’ll let the music do the talking.
