Music: Sudan Archives – Athena

First known as an avant-garde violinist, Sudan Archives has blossomed and turned into an incredibly gifted producer. Playing loop pedals and using her violin for soulful and poignant melodies, she has blossomed into one of the most exciting musicians in recent years. On her newest project Athena, she takes that sound and amplifies it musically to produce stunningly beautiful and lavish moments.

The intro “Did You Know” features plucked strings and a pure and gorgeous vocal performance from the talented musician. “Confessions” is a stunning track, with lavish and grand strings that capture so much amazing energy, with a thumping beat and gorgeous melodies. Tracks like “Green Eyes” features emphatic synths with a beat that is almost aggressive, with a dynamism and energy that is just riveting, while the intensity of the strings on “Stuck” are mesmerising. “Iceland Moss” is a pleasant track with strings and synths that are colourful and beautiful, with Sudan Archives’ soothing voice perfectly complementing the instrumental. The upbeat tone on “Glorious” is another highlight on this album, with a guest verse from rapper D-Eight, who brings introspection and brilliant flow to this record. The last three tracks “Limitless,” “Honey” and “Pelicans In The Summer” are stellar, angelic and emotive tracks that perfectly capture her angelic aura. Overall, Sudan Archives has released a stunning album with amazing textured compositions. Her introspective and personal lyricism throughout makes for an intimate listen, and one I will be having on repeat for a while.
