Music: Denzel Himself – gotha

London-based artist Denzel Himself has come through with a brand new project titled gotha. I loved his single “birdie” featuring KEYAH/BLU in the build up to the project, so I was anticipating it heavy.

It’s just 5 tracks and 12 minutes in length, but gotha is a pretty cohestive and dense project with a lot of great qualities. The hard-hitting beats throughout the project make for an intense listen. “birdie” is an example of that, with a hard-hitting beat and a menacing flow from both Denzel and KEYAH/BLU. “yeah” features more hard-hitting drums and menacing, almost punk-like energy in his delivery and the tone of the music. “dothatshit” is another one of those unapologetically nasty grooves, while “ride” features Meron T and represents more G-Funk like vibes with that hard claps and synths throughout. It’s a truly mesmeric project, captivating me fully with its infectious menacing energy. Overall, gotha is a stellar project that needs so much more recognition and support from the wider music and arts community. His visceral energy is something to commend, truly, and I really look forward to seeing his growth over the next few years.
