Music: Marquis Hill – Love Tape

Award-winning trumpeter, composer and bandleader Marquis Hill comes through with his brand new album titled Love Tape. Part of the inspiration for this project came from his curiosity to heard women’s perspectives on love, coming to the general conclusion that in order to truly love other people you must first learn to love yourself. The music from this project is a reflection of those conversations.

Throughout the 9 tracks on this album, Marquis Hill is able to really convey his emotions through intricate, gorgeous compositions. From the infectious drumming on “Roy’s Intro” to the soulful “Wednesday Love” with Christie Dashiell, the sonic diversity is something to be commented and celebrated. There’s a charm to this project that is quite magical. “To You I Promise” is a beautiful, trumpet-led track that has a spoken word piece about the essence of love and the beautiful nature of loving yourself before loving others. It’s an emotive and quite profound piece to me, as the horns throughout really do hit hard for me. Throughout the album that are genuinely sublime moments that really do capture such an angelic aura and soul. It’s a truly great project and I hope to continue hearing new music from the talented musician.
