Music: Sparrows – Berries

Japanese musician Ryota Miyake has released a brand new album titled Berries under the name Sparrows, and it’s a colourful, guitar and synth-heavy project that is colourful and light in tone. It’s an excellent introduction to the talented musician who is really able to craft some excellent rock and hip-hop inspired compositions.

The 13 track project starts off with “Sweet Holograms,” which is a short but sweet synth and guitar driven intro. “Gold In The Tide” features vocal contributions from Fazerdaze and is a proper, guitar-driven, melodic indie rock inspired track. The melodies an gorgeous tonalities are what make this a beautiful and hypnotic track, and is something present throughout the whole project. The colourful, electric-synth led “The Star Tours” is a jazz-inspired track, with quirky melodies and subtle keys throughout that provide soul and a gorgeous, hypnotic aura to the record. The beautiful vocals on “On Air” by Casey MQ are truly mesmeric, while the electronic synths and guitars on “Home” feel warm and homely in a way. Sparrows is really able to craft a beautiful, angelic album with Berries, showcasing his talents as an arranger and all-around terrific producer. An excellent release indeed!
