It’s that time of year again when Brownswood release the Future Bubblers compilation album, which aims give a platform to new and up and coming artists, and showcase their talents to the world. Paired with mentors, each musician goes through a process of learning and creating, while receiving help from experts in the field of music.
This years selections are upbeat and diverse, delivering high-energy jazz compositions to smooth neo-soul and hip-hop tracks. The artists on this project are Kayla Painter, Wilroy, Blind MIC, Nutribe, Aaliyah Esprit, Sydney (featuring Kerensa), Shunaji, Ayy, Shredy and Slvsh Three. Tracks like “Really On” by Blind MIC are a tremendous mix of smooth hip-hop and dynamic jazz, with horns and keys driving the melody and pace of the track. Nutribe brings a dark, moody 90s hip-hop vibe on “Sittin On Me Step,” while the tribal energy of Shunaji’s “Nighthawks (Acoustic Version)” is brilliant. The synth-heavy “Zither Rhythm 古箏” by Sydney featuring Kerensa brings a nice change of pace to the compilation as a whole, as well as Slvsh Three’s “Bounded” which is a synth-heavy electronic piece, brilliantly composed to end this album with a reflective moment. Overall, this year’s Bubblers have really impressed and I’m glad that this initiative is still going strong, as it’s incredibly important.
