Music: SONICON – Japan LP

Michigan-based producer SONICON comes through with a brand new album titled Japan LP. This is my first introduction to the producer, and I was immediately impressed by the gorgeous, textured electronic rhythms he is able to create with his music, bringing funky guitar leads and synths as well.

The album is 17 tracks long and feature a variety of sounds, all brought together by SONICON’s ability to create a unique, captivating soundscape throughout. Tracks like “your home” and “lover lover” bring incredibly funky grooves, with murky synths that are able to create a somewhat ethereal tone to the records. The saxophone leads throughout some of the tracks are brilliant as well. More ethereal, synth-heavy moments occur on “lake suwa” and “toyama bay,” as the mysticism of these tracks bring a welcome change of pace to the album. Overall, the eclectic nature of the album makes it a powerful and brilliant one, and I really hope he’ll get the recognition and support he deserves.
