London-based singer Lynda Dawn has released a funky, soulful masterpiece. Produced by Al Dobson Jr, At First Light features incredible, wobbly basslines, with hard-hitting drums and infectious funky rhythms that capture the sound of West Coast funk brilliantly.
The album kicks off with the infectiously brilliant “Move,” which features angelic keys, an infectious groove and a soulful, stunning vocal performance from the amazing singer. “Fonk Street” is exactly what the title suggests – a funky, groovy, infectious, stank face inducing track. The drum claps and thick synths are just incredible. “Arise” is more of a jazz-heavy track, with live drumming and stunningly beautiful tones and textures throughout that make it a brilliant record. “Theme for Cha-Cha” is similarly ethereal in sound, with fast keys, rhythmic drumming and an incredible voice from Lynda, who really shows her range on this track. “Any Way You Want” gives smooth, 90s R&B vibes with brilliant guitar leads and incredible drumming throughout. “Aprise” ends the album with a hard-hitting beat, complemented by angelic keys and a stunning vocal performance from one of the exciting new voices in funk and neo-soul music globally. Overall, this new project is so catchy and groovy it’s impossible not to just want to constantly dance and groove to it. It’s a terrific project, and I cannot wait to hear what hear what’s next from the talented artist.
