LA-based producer and Soulection member LAKIM has come through with a brand new beat tape titled The GINSU Tape. Having been a fan of this man’s music through his work with Soulection, this project was one I was looking forward to listening to, and as expected, he does not disappoint.
Soul samples, synth-heavy melodies and a lot of funk through thick and groovy basslines, LAKIM is really able to capture such a brilliant, animated music. Tracks like “Love Lost” and “Limitless” feature some incredible soul samples that are complemented by infectious beats and rhythms that keep the music engaging and incredibly hard-hitting. “The Harp Sings” is a beautiful, harp-led piece, while “Book of Carti” is a smooth, groovy and funky beat with electronic guitar leads that give the record heaps of personality. LAKIM is a producer everyone should listen to, and The GINSU Tape is proof of that. Brilliantly concise, consistent and engaging.
