Salami Rose Joe Louis is a California-based artist I have been following for a couple years now. Her albums son of a sauce! (2016) and Zalty Sauce Nephew (2017) are somewhat cult classics, having circulated actively on Bandcamp and Soundcloud since their releases. Her soothing vocals and quiet but hypnotic production make her such a unique artist to me, and her new album Zdenka 2080 amplifies the futuristic and playful nature of her music.
The album includes 22 tracks and is 43 minutes in length. It features some incredibly beautiful, textured sounds, with keys and synths meandering throughout the entire album. The opener “Suddenly” starts off with soothing vocals from the talented musician, as well as futuristic, smooth synths that brilliantly flow into the next track “Octagonal Room.” The tone of the album as a whole relies sublime synths, keys and electronic effects, a lot of which are subtle, but add tremendous character to the sound of the album as a whole. The Flying Lotus influence on tracks like “Peculiar Machine / Fourth Dimension” and “Collision, Gravity, Time” cannot go unnoticed, with its playful and experimental compositions that will definitely stay with me for the foreseeable future. Salami Rose Joe Louis really has created a masterpiece with this album, and I really hope she continues to grow as a musician and gain a bigger following because she deserves it!
