Amsterdam-based producer Young Marco comes through with an excellent new album titled Bahasa, a project inspired by his recent visit to Indonesia. The trip was to rekindle his Indonesian roots, visiting several islands within the archipelago including Bali, really immersing himself in their culture and lifestyle.
The result is a 8 track album that beautiful and heavy in percussion, with synths and keys throughout creating this angelic tone. “Kalapa Garden” is a rhythmic, percussion-heavy track that brings out raw, tribal energy that’s infectious and wonderfully composed. The soothing tone of “All These Seas” featuring Aardvarck is stunning too, as the sound of waves crashing, coupled with slow paced synths make for an angelic, reflective listen. “Temple On A Road” is one of my favourites, with a groovy, bass-driven beat and synths and keys providing an incredible, soothing rhythm throughout. The same applies to the next few tracks, “Time Before Time,” “Sacred Space” and “The Beginning And End,” all of which are stunningly beautiful in their aura, featuring incredible, spaced out synths that are absolutely amazing. Overall, Young Marco comes through with a hypnotic album, delving into Indonesian culture and music that’s just wonderfully composed and has a lot of soul and passion.
