Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist and all round amazing musician Taylor McFerrin has released his highly anticipated sophomore album titled Love’s Last Chance. It’s his first full-length body of work since his debut 2014 BRAINFEEDER project Early Riser. It is a beautiful project, with lush, textured soulful synth instrumentation, incredibly groovy and funky basslines as well as Taylor’s soothing and gorgeous vocals.
The gorgeous synth and string heavy opening “Her Entrance” gives way for the funky “All I See Is You,” as Taylor sings about love and attraction. The smooth, synth-heavy production on “Love and Distance” makes it a highlight on the album, with its slick groove and soulful tone. The angelic keys on “Now That You Need Me,” complemented by the impeccable drumming and hypnotic groove makes for a stellar track. Taylor McFerrin’s vocals are smooth and soulful too, as he complements the track beautifully. “Memory Digital” features the incredible Anna Wise, who brings such wonderful energy to the album, perfectly complementing Taylor’s vocals. The incredible groove to this track make it such an infectious tune. “I Would Still” and “As You Are” featuring Elena Pinderhughes and incredible tracks too, with a raw, souful energy. Elena kills it on flute on the latter track, bringing a soothing, ethereal tone to the record. “I Can’t Give Your Time Back” is a smooth and slow-paced track, while “So Cold in the Summer” is upbeat, groovy and infectious in energy, really bringing the album to a fun ending. Overall, Taylor McFerrin exceeds expectations with this release, with a mesmeric, groovy and funky new album. It’s great seeing him grow as a musician.
