Music: Alex Figueira – Platanito / Guacuco EP

Alex Figueira is a Venezuelan/Portuguese musician who currently resides in the Netherlands. He has released a 2 track EP titled Platanito / Guacuco, which feature some intensely groovy and dance-heavy music.

“Platanito” is described as “an uncompromised crossover between classic 70’s Heavy Funk, Ghanian / Nigerian Highlife, Angolan Semba and Venezuelan “Platanito.” The infectious, percussion-heavy track has crazy amounts of energy, from the groovy bassline to the guitar and electronic synth leads that add a psychedelic touch to the record. The vocals add character to the record, as its colourful vibe is truly joyful to listen to. “Guacuco” is slightly slower in pace, but features the beloved steel drum, which is complemented by heavy percussion, drumming, slick and groovy basslines and colourful guitar leads. It’s a fantastic track that keeps my head bobbing throughout. Alex Figueira really excels on this release and I can’t wait to hear more from the talented musician.
