Hailing from Birmingham in Alabama, Byron The Aquarius has released some gems throughout his career. It’s hard to believe that his new album Astral Traveling is his debut. With just over 40 minutes of soulful electronic and house music, the talented musician is able to bring character and a lot of energy for this release.
The opener “Love Is 4 U” is a perfect way to start the album, with a thumping house beat being complemented by subtle keys and vocals throughout. “Sorry Kari (Lu$T)” again features a heavy beat, with a thick bassline and wailing guitars especially near the end of the track that are just a perfect addition to the record. “Lost in Love (Intermission)” similarly features some groovy guitars and keys, while “Deep in That *****” features some silky synths and beautiful keys. The high-energy of “Universal Love” is infectious, and “My Only Life” has more broken-beat and live neo-soul instrumentation that gives Brandon Banks the opportunity to add soothing vocals throughout the track. “I Can’t Help My$elf (U)” and “Spazzing Out (4U)” are hip-hop inspired tracks that end the album out brilliantly. Overall, Byron The Aquarius does a great job of bringing diversity and eclecticism to his music. This new album is fantastic.
