UK-based musician Alxndr London has come through with a mesmeric new mixtape titled IV Merin. Having been a fan of his ethereal, soulful and otherworldly compositions, I was curious and ready to listen to this new project, and wow. Just wow. The super talented musician has released a gem.
He describes these 8 tracks as ‘a collection or anthology of prayers’ and it’s easy to hear why. The compositions meander between jazzy, soulful and brilliantly experimental. Collaborating with Dylema, Poté, Bluestaeb, DAYO BAND, Alexander Olayiwola, Alex Burey, Louis VI, Eckoes and Michelle Tiwo, each track comes with a unique sound and stunning aura. The experimental soundscape of “O Ti Bere” features electronic effects, tribal percussion and a spoken word piece from Dylema. “Mama Said” is a darker, techno-inspired track with the dark, bass-heavy energy and off-kilter beat. “Roll Safe” is a sweet, soulful ballad with gorgeous vocal performances and stunning synths and guitar leads that make it an engaging listen. “Eq Basa” features Alxndr London singing beautifully, with Louis VI bringing a confident verse. The gospel inspired “Talking Drum” is a clear highlight with the synth and bass-heavy compositions, coupled with his stunning vocal performance. “O Ti Pari” is a brilliant closer, with off-kilter samples and vocals. Alxndr London is such an incredible artist and IV Merin is his strongest project to date.
