The Kundalini Genie are an exciting psychedelic rock band from Glasgow. Their third full-length album is titled It’s All In Your Head, a fuzzy, trippy and engaging body of work that exceeds my expectations.
With fuzzy, psychedelic sounds throughout the album, the band are able to create gorgeous soundscapes with textured instrumentation. It’s amazing to think that the core band for this album consists of only 3 people. Robbie Wilson is on Guitar, Bass, Drums, Vocals, Percussion and Keys. Jack Getty is on Guitar, Bass and Vocals. Jason Shaw is on Guitar. The incredible guitar leads on tracks like “It’s All In Your Head” and “Only Love (Liquid Technicolour)” are amazing and incredibly immersive. The extended, drug filled aesthetic of some of the tracks such as “A Song of Love” and “You’ll Find Out (When You’re On Your Own),” with extended guitar leads being layered on top of each other, with drumming and basslines giving a groove to the music. The fact that the tracks are mostly 6-7 minute long means that they can really extend their guitar leads and solos, which providing gorgeous vocals that are almost suffocated by the fuzziness of the guitars, which sound overpowering throughout the tracks.
Overall, this project is a hypnotic, psychedelic and spiritual listen that just transports me someplace else. A truly amazing listening experience.
