Cousin Feo is a talented rapper from Los Angeles, and Provoleta is his brand new album. It is entirely produced by Dre Mendoza. The concept of the album is an interesting one – a celebration of the greatest Argentinian footballers to play the sport. From Maradona, to di Stefano, to Lionel Messi to Riquelme, this project really is one of a kind!
The smooth, soulful production that Dre Mendoza is incredible. The intricate synths and string samples are complemented by some incredibly dope boom-bap production. The visceral verses from Cousin Feo and the features throughout the album, with football and drug references throughout, especially on the opening track “Maradona.” The raw energetic tone of this one in particular sets the tone for the rest of the album. With more coke and drug raps on “Di Stefano,” which features guest appearances from Codenine & Panamanian Dro, the tracks keep getting heavier in energy and more engaging. “Sorin & Heinze” featuring 1-800-Call-$ol has a smooth and soulful melody with no beat, which gives way for Cousin Feo and 1-800-Call-$ol to really bring out emotive and poignant verses. In between all of these crazy verses and beats, you get snippets of commentators on football games giving their reactions to some of the players represented on this album. “Messi” is a terrific track featuring Flashius Clayton and brings so much dope energy. “Batistuta” and “Riquelme” featuring Lord Juco continue with that raw, gritty energy and end the album out well. Overall, this is a pretty fantastic project and I hope I get to hear more unique concepts in hip-hop.
