The Jackets are a rock band from Switzerland. Queen of the Pill is their fourth full length album, and rather embarrassingly my first introduction to the group. Creating fuzzy, aggressive Garage-rock tunes with Rock ‘N Roll melodies, this vibrant, talented band have created somewhat of a masterpiece.
10 tracks long, the Bern-based band have really excelled on this release, creating some pretty explosive moments on this album through memorable riffs and catchy, energetic vocals. Examples of this are tracks like “Move On” and “Don’t Leave Me Alone,” with fuzzy, wailing guitar riffs dominating the latter track especially. The overpowering bassline on “What About You” make it a memorable track, while the deep psychedelic tone of “Deeper Way,” and wailing vocals from lead singer Jackie Brutsche makes for an engaging and incredibly catchy, fun and vibrant listen. The heavy energy the band brings is inspiring, and now that I’ve experienced this album, it’s time to go back in time to their discography and discover more of their music. Terrific album.
