Music: Betsayda Machado & La Parranda El Clavo – Loé Loá

Olindo Records present Betsayda Machado & La Parranda El Clavo’s 2017 album Loé Loá on vinyl for the first time. ‘Parranda’, is the style of music they have been able to beautifully create, a traditional Venezuelan genre that literally translates into party. Not all of the themes are joyful and party-filled, however, as they talk about struggles they have faced recently in Venezuela including poverty, hunger, and the lack of basic medicine.

The album is full of chants, vocal melodies and harmonies that are backed by heavy percussion, giving the album as a whole an intense, dynamic vibe. It features 17 singers and 12 percussionists, and you could really sense the energy and overpowering presence of all the musicians involved. There are high-energy rhythms and dynamic drumming and percussion as well. It’s a good introduction to ‘Parranda’ music and I recommend you give it a try!
