Moroccan producer Saib has released a brand new project titled Basement Grooves. This is my first introduction to the talented beatmaker, and he does not disappoint one bit, providing us with smooth and soulful instrumentals that are rich with samples, keys, guitar leads and drums.
Tracks like “Talk To Me” have a beautiful vocal sample that is interwoven with stunning keys and guitar leads. The textures throughout the project are great. The incredible guitar leads on “Mint Jam” are a complete standout for me, as they just sound incredible over some drums. The piano driven “Piano Bar” is more dynamic in tone compared to some of the other tracks on the tape, with energetic piano throughout, as well as a harder-hitting and faster beat that sounds fantastic. “Sweet Love” is a beautiful song too, with a fantastic guitar groove, showcasing how talented he is in composing guitar-led, rock inspired tunes while keeping true to his hip-hop roots. “On Point” is a great track too, with a Tribe Called Quest sample and some colourful guitar leads and keys that make it a warm and funky listen. The electronic guitars near the middle of the track are phenomenal too, and add so much personality to the music. Overall, Saib really excels on this release, and I’ll be looking forward to any new music he has coming up, because this one is a gem.
