Brazilian funk legend Marcos Valle comes through with a brand new album titled Sempre, a lengthy and groovy new feel-good project that is energetic and brings a lot of character. Featuring Azymuth bassist Alex Malheiros a horn section including Valle’s go-to high-trumpeter Jesse Sadoc, and percussion master Armando Marcal, the compositions on this album are beautifully textured with a mixture of percussive elements and high-energy drumming.
The album starts of brilliantly “Olha Quem Tá Chegando,” with incredible percussion and guitar leads, which perfectly complement the bass-heavy grooves of this track. Marcos’ smooth vocals, which are prevalent throughout the album are beautiful, and bring such character to the record, putting you in the middle of sunny summer Rio. There are slower, more sensual tracks such as “Alma,” which bring out more keys and synths to the mix, while “Vou Amanhã Saber” contains an upbeat, playful vibe with keys and incredibly dense grooves, stunning guitar leads and trumpet melodies throughout. The groovy, disco-centric tone to these tracks make for such fun listens that it’s impossible not to get up and dance. The heavy funk on
“Aviso Aos Navegantes” is so addicting and brilliant, while the title track “Sempre” is really quite an amazing way to end the album. Overall, Marcos Valle comes through with a killer new funk and disco album that is just incredible in every single way. Stunning work from the Brazilian legend.
