Music: Boogarins – Sombrou Dúvida

Boogarins are a psych-rock band from Goiânia, Brazil. Their music has been celebrated for years now, and my lack of knowledge on the genre is clear from the fact that this is the first time I’m hearing about them and their latest release came out in May. It’s called Sombrou Dúvida and features some smooth, psychedelic guitar leads and soothing vocals from the lead singer Dinho Almeida.

The opener “As Chances” is a slower-paced, psychedelic trip through fuzzy guitars and synths that complement the basslines and drums throughout the track. “Sombra Ou Dúvida” features more colourful guitar leads and dynamic energy, with more personality in the vocal performances throughout. The real fuzziness of “A Tradição” makes it a trippy listening experience, and “Nós” amplifies it even more with more distortion. There is plenty of hip-hop influence throughout from some of the drum rhythms and it’s great seeing them take different influences. The closer “Passeio” features drum samples that sound very Outkast inspired, and the silky synths and smooth vocals that are both beautiful and soulful. The band really came through and made a statement with Sombrou Dúvida and I can’t wait to hear what they have coming up in terms of music or live shows.
