Music: Dotorado Pro – Macumba

Portugese-based producer Dotorado Pro comes through with a new EP titled Macumba. This is my first introduction to the young and gifted producer, and this project highlights the extent of his talents. I usually cringe at the thought of afro-house music, maybe because of my own ignorance for the genre – to me it sounds a bit too repetitive and boring. However, this album has changed my mind and has made me eager to discover more sounds like the ones on this fantastic project.

With heavy percussion throughout, especially on tracks like “Macumba”and “Marimbadas,” the melodies and grooves of the tracks make it a deeply energetic and engaging listen. With synths being sprinkled throughout the project, it’s the hard-hitting beats throughout that give this record such high-energy. I just lock into a groove and can’t stop dancing it’s that great. “Say Daddy” features pitched up vocal samples and synths that give this record a summer-like vibe. The guitar leads throughout give the record an excellent groove as well. The in-your-face energy of “Fusion” makes it my favourite on this EP, and I cannot wait to hear what this talented producer has planned for the future.
