Music: Slauson Malone – A Quiet Farewell, Twenty Sixteen to Twenty Eighteen

Former Standing On The Corner member Jasper Marsalis has released a stellar new album titled Quiet Farewell, Twenty Sixteen to Twenty Eighteen. The talented producer creates a moody, intricate and captivating soundscape that feature beautiful strings, vocal features and gorgeous jazzy moments throughout 20 tracks. Features include Medhane, Pearl de Luna, Taphari, Maxo, Caleb Giles & Pink Siifu.

Tracks like “I Can Make You Feel Freedom Into Katri” features a sublime and sensual vocal performance from Pearl de Luna, as well as suffocating vocal snippets throughout the track that make it a beautiful moment on this album. “Off Me! and or the wake, Pt. 1 & 2” has amazing strings and a interesting feature from one of my favourite musicians Pink Siifu, who provides a vocal performance unlike anything I have heard from him. The two parts to the track are joined up perfectly into a soulful and blues-heavy vibe, with guitar leads that dominate the groove of the track. The album also includes what is probably the longest track titled I have ever seen with “The Flying Africans board mothership Zong! to colonize the new nubian planet called X “The World laughs as it turns another degree, hotter.”” It is a moody interlude-like tracks that’s just beautiful too. There’s so much to admire about the arrangements on this phenomenal body of work, and it might even be one of my absolute favourites to come out this year. This has been on repeat since it came out and I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon.

So massive shoutout to Slauson Malone for this terrific new album. Listen to Quiet Farewell, Twenty Sixteen to Twenty Eighteen below via Spotify, and don’t forget to support!
