Music: TSUBAME – THE PRESENT

Being in Japan for two weeks has been incredible for a plethora of reasons, but one has definitely been the fact that I can dive deeper into the music scene and discover artists I wouldn’t have otherwise discovered. This is where TSUBAME comes in, a talented Japanese producer who not too long ago released his debut album titled THE PRESENT. The talented musician is able to create beautiful soundscapes through his R&B-laden and guitar & key heavy music.

With features sprinkled throughout the record including “Emi Okamoto, RACHEL, TENDRE, AAAmYYY, Itto, Macka-Chin, mabanua, HUNGER, kiki vivi lily, Kick a Show and 週末CITY PLAY BOYZ, the music brings different soundscapes and characters. Not hearing of TSUBAME or any of the featured artists, going into this with a fresh mind really made this album worthwile. I stumbled across it randomly in Tower Records in Chibuya, Tokyo a couple of days ago, and haven’t stopped listening to it since. “SPACE” features a soulful vocal performance from TENDRE, and a jazz-tinged instrumental, while “WEEKEND PLANS” with 週末CITY PLAY BOYZ features a trap-inspired beat and some stellar verses from the guys from the talented hip-hop group. It’s an awesome album with a whole lot of character. An awesome listening experience.
