Ever so often you go to shows that completely blow you away and inspire you creatively during and after the performances. South London based artist Intalekt came through with an incredible live performance at Orbitsound, and I’ll never forget it. Not only did he own the stage, but he allowed for others around him to have their own spotlight.
The performance was centered around his most recent album The Adventures of Masta Splinta, a beautiful and sonically dense project I’ve enjoyed heavily upon its release. He performed with his whole band, and played some of my favourites such as “Hope,” “We Move,” and “The Village.” Guest appearances were plentiful, as Montreal-based singer and frequent collaborator KALLITECHNIS took to the stage, as well as the likes of GeeFree (as Billy Dukes), Afronaut Zu, and Jay Prince, all of whom just added to the beautiful and inspiring vibe of the evening. Near the end of the show, Intalekt basically curated a cipher, where a lot of musicians in the building came through to freestyle for a little while. Knowing most of them personally, it made me proud to be in a room with such unbelievable talents, so much love to everyone who came through and shared their talents.
A big reminder to go check out his new release The Adventures of Masta Splinta and Billy Dukes’ The Intervention, both linked below via Bandcamp and Soundcloud, respectively. Don’t forget to support!
