Gaijin Blues consists of Polish-based musician Naphta and his bandmate Playstation Yoga Music. They have finally released their highly anticipated EP, a tribute to Japanese pop culture, manga and video games, which is a result of them touring to different regions of Japan and spending time in record shops, as well as playing classic RPGs.
The 4-track EP is dense with swirling keys, tribal drum rhythms and beautiful synths that give out such emotion and raw energy. “Cafe LeBlanc” is heavy with dynamic drum rhythms and strings that bring colour and a personality to the record. “Metal Gear Rex” is string led as well, and features some rhythm-heavy percussion throughout which really make for an electrifying listen. “Guardia Castle” features a hypnotic flute sample as well as vocal chops which are intertwined with heavy drumming and swirling synths. It really is an excellent release showcasing Naphta and Playstation Yoga Music’s talents with creating a Japanese-inspired sound that is colourful and dynamic in sound.
